India one step away from creating history

It has all boiled down to another India- England contest in the 11th Edition of ICC Women’s Worldcup. Both teams started their campaign in the tournament meeting each other and now they face off yet again for the final show down. The stage is set for the prestigious ICC Women’s World Cup Finals with hosts England taking on giant killers India.

India Topped for the tournament playing the qualifying round held in Sri Lanka. Along with India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan joined the main fray. India had a mediocre start in the warm up match losing to New Zealand, beat Sri Lanka in the second Warmup match.

When these teams met for the first time, England was obvious favorites. But India Shocked England by pulling off a win at Derby. And till now they have kept the Derby records straight, and the team, the management, and the fans were happy to call Derby – a home away from home.

England uprose from the shock defeat, they were clinical from then on in the tournament, beating each and every other team in the competition. Whereas India secured comfortable wins against minnows but lost two back to back games at the business end of the league stage to South Africa and Australia. This made their last league game against New Zealand, a virtual Qualifier, a team which they lost to in the warm up game. But India bounced back, a thumping 186 runs win against New Zealand. It followed another Clinical performance against Australia in Semifinal. India entered Final of an ICC Women’s Worldcup after 12 years.

England hopes are heavily depending on their batting strength. Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight, Sarah Taylor and Natalie Sciver forms the core of their batting lineup. Late order cameos from Katherine Brunt, Jenny Gunn can demoralize any opponents. Katherine Brunt leads England Bowling supported by Anya Shrubsole. Heather Knight picks up wickets at right interval always giving England an extra bowling option.

Indian batting has been off color in a couple of games but they boast many Champion performers in the names of Captain Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma. Blinders from Vedha Krishnamurthy(against New Zealand) and Harmanpreet Kaur(against Australia) single handedly demolished the rivals. Deepti Sharma has one Century against her name, so does opener Poonam Raut. Smriti Mandhana after her two performances has failed, but Indians hope she will come good against the Hosts when it matters most.

India has got two veteran performers both being leading wicket taker and run getter. Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj are champion performers and a Worldcup win will be a gift to these performers for their service to Indian Cricket. India heavily banks on their spin strength, but pace bowling department also came good in the semi against Australia.

Unlike previous editions which India played more people will be gluing to their television sets when India take on England. Hopes are high and this Indian team is capable of pulling off another upset and a maiden Worldcup Title.
